Thief Patch 17 Download
The new update, Patch 1.17, is now available to download. Players who are interested in fixing the various issues with the game's multiplayer mode are advised to download it when they can. Unlike the previous update, which added the PlayStation 4 Pro support for the game, the new patch is mostly focused on fixing and improving the game's.
Anyone ranting on how broken/fugly the game is, you NEED to download and install TFix for a stable, bearable experience. Thief Gold is so old that it does not run properly on modern PCs. When I tried to play it vanilla (without modding/patching) the game progressed at least 500% faster than normal. The controls felt absolutely awful beacuse of this, especially in the climbing section of the tutorial, and I would have thought it was a problem with the game design itself had I not read the mission stats: the timer read 1 hour and 3 minutes after I had spent roughly 10 min in the tutorial. Thankfully, I found the Thief Gold Setup and Modding Guide here on Steam, followed the instructions, and ta-da! Full 1080p, great sound, smooth gameplay!
You can even install mods for high-res textures and detailed models if you wish! EDIT: A link to Saleck's guide, look for the instructions here. I download the patch, and everything worked fine apart from 2 things. Unipatch 1c 83 x64. I can't use shift+w to sprint, it has to be just shift, and the major one is my character now walks at about 1/4 of the orginal speed and when I use toggle speed, he just slows even more. So I am left with either moving a what is usually crounching + toggle speed, speed or sprinting.
Anyone had the game issue? This happened on my PC and my Dad's laptop. The game itself runs smooth, it's just strange that the walking speed has changed.
Hello everyone, We have just made public a new version of the PC version of Thief, v1.7 build 4158.21 This patch will be applied by Steam automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client. This patch will address the following issues.
• Made several AMD Mantle specific optimizations. • Fixed several issues with AMD Mantle and specific hardware configurations. While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we made a Beta available on Steam, v1.6 build 4158.14, that can be used to switch back to the previous version Step 1: Go to your STEAM library and select Thief in your game list Step 2: right-click on the game and go to properties Step 3: go to the Betas tab in the properties menu Step 4: select version_1.6 and press ok. This will set you back to the original released version of the game. We will keep monitoring for feedback and will release further patches as it seems required.
We always welcome your feedback! As you know, the moderation team have already contacted the relevant people regarding this matter.
We can't do any more than we have done already, honestly. However, because I'm a goodsie woodsie lady, I will ask again. Indeed. Thanks Vik! @NH, Just some FYI your way. The Unreal engine is a great engine, however I have read and seen new titles come out with this sort of problem. Maybe not audio issues, but others that are relevant to that engine.
Game engines are a fickle bunch of code. My brother works with the Unity engine and experiences code conflicts as well.
Not surprised about Thief's issues really. Just need to stay on track to get them fixed.
I am not playing Thief ATM. Busy and a still have a 'black screen load up' problem I need to look into. It might be drivers (using 14.9 ATI).
I do think the audio issues are major because Thief has always focused on the audio environment as the key to success and the departure from the ordinary FPS. I do not think they have abandoned this. If the audio issues are resolved, then Thief will reach the awesome potential we all have for this game. If the audio issues are resolved, then Thief will reach the awesome potential we all have for this game.Had, for me at least. I am a huge fan of the first three games, having played them many times each and even getting all the loot on the hardest settings just because. At first I was psyched about a new Thief game.
Even though it was a reboot. Then I heard they were not going to base it in a medieval-steam-punk; then I heard they were not going to bring back the original voice actor for Garret. So if they were going to reboot the series, change the period of the game AND not bring back our favorite voice actor (that is 3 strikes mind you) then I hoped they were going to deliver a darn good product.
From what little I have played, the game LOOKS pretty. But all the context sensitive commands to me got old fast, but then there was the audio issues. Honestly that for me was the stop point.
As it has been stated, audio is a defining thing of Thief, and if the audio doesn't work, the immersion doesn't work and that means the game doesn't work. When you were being hunted by zombies or listening for how close a guard was by their voice that was when any Thief game became worth its weight in gold.
