The first seven years of posthumous Elvis Presley reissues, 1978-1984, overseen by RCA's Joan Deary, often had Presley fans scratching their heads in confusion. Here's a good example of why: what could possibly justify the title of this ten-track album of later Presley material, four tracks of which were previously unreleased live versions? True, some of Presley's biggest later hits, including 'Suspicious Minds' and 'Burning Love,' were included, but what can RCA have expected a Volume Two to contain? Four years after Presley's death, any new album with his name on it still sold well enough to make the charts for at least a few weeks, as this one did. But RCA was rapidly eroding fans' good will.

As it turned out, there were no more volumes in this curiously named series. ~ William Ruhlmann.
