Yours is perhaps the fourth or fifth report I have seen recently of this problem. I do not know of any reason why the CVF install should 'suddenly' stop accepting valid serial numbers, but CVF is unsupported and no resources are available to investigate or fix this. (I asked the engineer who worked on the CVF installer and he said he no longer has a copy of the sources.) I haven't been able to reproduce the problem on my system.
